Mustafa Suiçmez / Çanakkale, Aug 26 () – The famous Aristotle statue welcoming visitors in entrance of ancient Assos site has been vandalized by assailants, then removed and sent to İzmir city for repair.
In Aegean Çanakkale resort town, a statue of Aristotle, known as founder of first philosophy school in history, have been erected in 2009 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the entrance of Assos ancient site (Behramkale Village in Ayvacık district) that is recognized as a leading seaport in ancient era.
The statue welcoming visitors have been vandalized by assailants; the right arm has been pulled off, while severe distortion was noticed in the facial part of the statue. After the reparation, the statue will be erected back to its old place.
Assos and Aristotle
Assos, one of the leading seaports of ancient era, is known as the ancient site where Aristotle had formed the first philosophy school and marked the history as “father” of reason, rationalism and realism with his scientific vision.
For 20 years, Aristotle resumed dialogues with Plata and his academy in Athens before founding the school. At the academy in Assos, Aristotle had taught Alexander the Great Alexander, then formed his own school Lykeion off the center when he had not been assignes as head of academy when he had returned to Athens.
Aristotles had been accused of paganism because of his earlier poem, after Great Lexander’s death and had died in Khalkis, in 323 B.C.
