Mustafa Oğuz / İzmir, Sep 4 () – In Aegean province of İzmir, to where migrants fleeing the civil war in Syria flock, “children of war” face the inhumane conditions and struggle to survive just like their parents.

Basmane district of İzmir, known as a nexus for illegal migrants particularly of Syrian origin waiting to cross into Europe, hosts many of these young lives and young dreams.

A girl around 10 years old holding a doll in her hands, just like her peers, hold on to her toys in a city where no one know their names, in a country where she doesn’t speak the same language. Having come to İzmir with her mother from Syria, along with luggages full of belongings, the kid were pictured while trying to get to know the town and its people with fearful eyes.

On Basmane streets, on the other hand, children dummies wearing lifejackets are noticed in display cases of shops.
