Istanbul, Sep 15 () – Economy has dragged around one million people to unemployment, according to Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey Research Institute.

The Confederation announced a report evaluating the data released by Turkstat, and stressed that the official unemployment rate saw 9.6 percent, 0.5 points above the last year’s number, having risen by 226,000 people to 2.88 million.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has not fallen under 10 percent since June 2014, while number of people unemployed in June 2015 against June 2012 rose by around 50 percent. Thus, Turkey’s economy engendered 945,000 new unemployed people in three years.

Meanwhile, non-agricultural unemployment rate rose from 11.1 to 11.7 against 2014. According to the report, in June 2015 the number of unemployed persons saw the highest level since June 2009, stroke by an economic crisis.

Official unemployment rate of women rose by 0.7 points to 11.6 percent level against last year’s same period, stressed the report, having added that youth unemployment rate has, accordingly, rose 8.5 points to 27.2 percent level. Among young women, the unemployment rate with its extended definition, reached critical levels with 34.1 percent, according to the Confederation.
