Izmir, Aug 5 () - A worker was killed and four trapped under debris, with three still missing, in the collapse of a viaduct construction in the Aegean province of İzmir around 1:00 p.m. on Aug 4.

The dead body of a worker was retrieved from wreckage and a large number of others were reported to be injured after the collapse of the steel constructional spine and molds of the viaduct, constructed in the Koyundere area of the highway connecting İzmir to the northwestern province of Çanakkale.

The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Firefighting Unit, the municipality’s Search, Rescue and Health Department (AKS) and a large number of ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

Search and rescue teams were still searching for the three missing workers, using caterpillars, concrete breakers and sharp searching tools on Aug. 4 at the time of the publication.

The injured workers were taken to a public hospital in İzmir’s Menemen district for treatment.
