Hakan Kabahasanoğlu / Giresun, Aug 6 () – In Black Sea province of Giresun and its districts, the harvest of hazelnut commenced earlier than expected; producers flocked to their gardens.

Giresun Directorate for Food Agriculture and Livestock has announced the launch date of harvest to be August 8. This year the price is expected to be 15 liras, comparing to last year’s price that has reached 22 liras, because of agricultural frost.

In Boztekke Village, producers told that incineration could decrease the yield of nuts and the expected yield is not likely to occur. They presume that the market will be opened by 15 liras.

One of the producers Ömer Konar said, “We observe that most of the products are empty because of collar rot." Another villager reminded that nuts have not make money when they give enough products. “Last year because of the frost, there wasn’t enough nuts. I hope we will be able to make money this year as well”.

Some of the producers raised their reaction to forecasts of exporters, which was 730,000 ton yields. In this regard, Telat Karslı, a producer, said “I don’t know how they have found this number. Probably they wanted to announce this number in attempt to pull down the last year’s prices. They are tricking hazelnut producers with these mind games. But the producer do not became conscious and smarter. This year the price will be opened with 15 liras and will continue rising.”
