Zafer Tokuş / Sakarya, Aug 24 () – In Sapanca district of western Sakarya province, ruins of Turkish bath under protection dating back to 1555 that had been constructed for to Suleiman the Magnificient will be unearthed.
The archaeological efforts to unearth the Rüstempaşa Social Complex (Külliye), which also include ancient Turkish bath ruins thought to had been constructed by Vizier Rustem Pasha, has been launched recently.
The excavation work revealed that the ruins marked significant architectural traits with reference to its historical age. The excavation works, when completed, will also give birth to a new historical social space in the Sapanca district,as the ruins will be illuminated with a special transparent glass, and bowers will be launched in the middle of the platform.
The platform is expected to be used for social events such as historical and cultural conferences and programmes.
Mayor of Sapanca Professor Aydın Yılmazer also announced that restoration works would not be restrainted to the Turkish bath, and the Uzunkum Rahime Sultan Mosque will also be included in the works, along with many other artefacts in the region.
